Healthcare in Spain
The organization of the health system in Spain basically consists of two ways to access care: One public and one private.
Public Health System:
The public health system in Spain is free and universal : Consultations, access to emergency and medication is free. The majority of Spaniards have thus resorted to public health insurance system called Insalud (Instituto Nacional de Management Sanitaria).
Each employee contributes to the mandatory Spanish public health system. Physicians in the Spanish social security are employees who work for the National Institute of Health Management. They are not paid directly by the patient, thereby having relatively uniform rates of one doctor to another. Waiting times to see specialists are very long.
Dental and optical are not supported by Insalud. You must purchase private insurance or supplementary health (mutual) that care for you return the lowest possible price.
What you should do:
You must make an application to the nearest medical center to request theaward of a physician. The Spanish social security system requires the attending physician and the health center (in general, closest to the home) where you have to see You do not have the choice of doctor but you can instead choose to consult your doctor in the morning or afternoon. Once this choice is made, it can not be changed. The attending physician is responsible for navigating to a specialist if necessary.
Private health care (Mutual or Private Insurer)
The employee contributes to the Spanish social security system and adheres to a mutual parallel. The mutual has its own network of hospitals, clinics and laboratories. Access to care is therefore faster than in the public system. Membership in the Mutual pays.
To qualify for free care, it is essential to go through a doctor of the Spanish Social Security sends the insured person to a specialist (in the public or private).
