You should seek medical advice before travelling to Madagascar and ensure that all appropriate vaccinations are up-to-date. Although there are a number of public and private hospitals in Antananarivo, only routine operations can be handled. If complex surgery is required you will be evacuated either to South Africa or La Reunion. If you need a doctor you may be asked to pay for the consultation there and then. You should ensure that you have sufficient medical insurance to cover this. We recommend that you obtain comprehensive medical insurance before travelling. You should check any exclusions, and that your policy covers you for all the activities you want to undertake.
