. China to introduce expat tax - China may have dented its attractiveness as a destiniation for expats after announcing a tax on expat workers. From October 15, expats working in mainland China will be forced to pay 11 per cent of their salaries to the goverment in exchange for benefits such as pension coverage. . Cut off dates decided by Emirates Identity Authority - The Emirates Identity Authority has announced fresh deadlines for expatriates to apply for ID cards, after which a fine of Dh20 a day will be applicable, up to Dh1,000, children under 15 are exempt from the late fee until October 2012. . Expats suffer from everyday health complaints - The majority of expats suffer from general every day health problems rather than emergencies that tend to make the headlines according to recent research by a leading expatriate healthcare provider, among the most common ailments are breathing infections that can be brought on by being in new surroundings and exposed to things the individual has little or no resistance to. . Equity release expats take on banks - Expatriates who bought into unsuccessful equity release schemes and now face losing their properties have set up an action group to take on the Nordic banks behined the schemes. . Increase in expats wanting serviced apartments - Demand for these kinds of residences have increased with American, European and Japanese expats, this type of accommodation typically attracts expatriates providing fully furnished units that are more spacious and come with services such as weekly house cleaning and baby-sitting.
Also in the news a recent study suggests laughter really is the best medicine, researchers at the university of Oxford found people feel less discomfort after a good laugh and suggest the ability to belly-laugh was unique to early humans.
